I love to travel and I love an adventure. Whether it be by road or restaurant, back alley or backwater I want to be part of things that ignite my soul and fire up my imagination. Well, Hanoi Beer Tour was the firecracker that did just that!
I have been to Vietnam several times and am always looking for new experiences to try and Hanoi Beer Tour put simply was the best ‘tour’ that I have joined in a long while. So much so that when asked by friends to recommend the ‘must do’s’ in Vietnam, this experience will be mentioned in the same breath as Halong Bay, Hoi An and fishing in Lang Co.
Hanoi Beer Tour is run by two awesome individuals, Brett and Tan. Brett is from Australia and has such a passion and expertise in all things Vietnam – particularly Hanoi. He also loves a beer and is not shy when it comes to sharing the beer experience with his guests. Tan is a local boy come good. Born in the northern Vietnamese countryside at the end of the war Tan has seen it all and experienced it all and now loves nothing more than to regale his guests with stories that you would be hard pressed to hear from anyone else and especially not in some guide book.
Hanoi Beer Tour is not just about great beer (all different local brews) matched to the most amazing local cuisine. It is much more than that. It is about really ‘seeing’ Hanoi (and not just the well-worn tourist trail). It is about seeing Hanoi, her surrounds and all her beauty. It is about bearing witness to the history and culture of this amazing place through the eyes of two similar yet very different individuals.
Just wait till you hear the story about how Brett’s dad was fighting on one side during the war and Tan’s dad a military commander on the other – compelling, almost movie like stuff.
